Surrey hotel wins The Tea Guild’s Top City and Country Hotel Tea Award 2012

Pennyhill Park Hotel in Surrey has just been announced as the winner of one of The Tea Guild’s highest accolades. These awards, now in their 27th year, are known as the ‘Michelin Stars’ of the tea world, with Britain’s best tea rooms, country and city hotels all competing for the honour. The Top City and Country Hotel Tea Award began in 2010 to recognise the overwhelming quality of afternoon teas served in this category.

The Tea Guild inspectors judge each hotel on 16 different categories and awarded Pennyhill Park Hotel a near perfect score particularly praising the service and exceptional product knowledge from the waitresses saying, “it was such an enjoyable experience in beautiful surroundings. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff – they turned our visit into something special.”

Says Krzysztof Prokop, Ascot Bar Manager at Pennyhill Park: “This is an honour. We have always prided ourselves on our extensive variety of fine teas and homemade scones, cakes and pastries. Our menu appeals to all tastes both traditional and modern. It has also been wonderful to see an increase in our relatively new Mini Me Afternoon Teas, which are proving to be very popular with our younger guests.”

Afternoon tea is served in the Ascot Bar or on the hotel’s terrace, weather permitting, but can also be provided in one of the hotel’s many quirky nooks and seating areas. In finer weather guests are encouraged to venture within the hotel’s sprawling grounds with a comfy rug and a thermos of tea to hand, completing the perfect afternoon tea picnic experience.

The Traditional Afternoon Tea at Pennyhill Park (£28.00) includes a selection of teas and coffee, freshly made sandwiches, assorted pastries and homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Other options include the Royal Ascot Afternoon Tea (£45), the Celebration Afternoon Tea (£45), and the Mini Me Afternoon Tea (for under 12s at £14).

Pennyhill Park is a five star country house hotel and part of the family-owned Exclusive Hotels Collection.
