Cote Brasserie helps visually impaired diners read menus
Côte Restaurants has become the first French brasserie group to sign up with Good Food Talks, the free menu app and website that helps visually impaired people and those with reading disabilities dine in restaurants.
Côte is the first French restaurant group in the UK to join the scheme. It was developed by founders Matt and Kate Wadsworth after they discovered that many visually impaired people felt frustrated when they need to have menus read out to them by other people at the table or by restaurant staff – and 4 out of 5 visually impaired people are more likely to go to a restaurant where the menu is accessible. Since launching at the end of September, the Côte menu has already attracted 1000 views on the Good Food Talks app.
Good Food Talks operates in partnership with the British Hospitality Association. It uses location-tracking software to identify all nearby restaurants that have signed up to the scheme and deploys text to speech software, colour inversion, adjustments to the print size and screen brightness to assist people with limited vision and dyslexia.
The move to incorporate more complicated menus such as Côte’s is new to Good Food Talks and will allow more and more restaurants to cater to visually impaired customers.
